Los Angeles Southwest College Library
The LASC Library provides a variety of resources and services for students and faculty, including books, magazines, access to electronic resources & databases, study rooms, printing & copying services, academic workshops, and a computer lab. Tutorial services are also available with the Student Services Department located within the library. The library mission is “to provide opportunities to build and enhance the educational skills of our diverse student body by providing reference services and access to current print and electronic materials conducive to study, research and life-long learning.” The Intern will gain practical library skills that will prepare them to handle the issues and challenges specific to working in an academic environment.
The Library Department Chair and the intern will establish duties and expectations at the beginning of the internship based on specific needs, which includes but not limited to the following:
- Evaluate, preserve, and arrange records, documents, and photographs
- Handling books, letters, old photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials
- Storing them over the long-term based on an organizational system that provides efficient retrieval.
Currently enrolled in an ALA accredited graduate program in library/information science with a demonstrated emphasis and interest in Academic Libraries. In addition, applicants must conform to their institution’s guidelines and practices for internships.
