Intern, Anaheim Public Library

By IS Lab July 17, 2021

Anaheim Public Library

The Anaheim Public Library is a public library located in northern Orange County, California. We serve a diverse population of 360,000 residents and others from the surrounding communities. The Anaheim Public Mobile Library (Bookmobile) is currently in the process of setting up and launching a brand-new service called the Anaheim Public Library’s STEAM Adventures: Exploration on Wheels. It is scheduled to launch in September 2021. This new service is designed to encourage education in the areas of hands-on art and science. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. The sprinter van will be going into high-density and low-income areas, visiting libraries, schools, and parks, and other non-traditional library service areas such as motel families throughout the City of Anaheim. The service is specifically geared for elementary school students and their families.

This unique opportunity will allow an intern(s) to learn about the steps necessary for starting a new service and dealing with the successes and challenges which arise during the first few months after launch. The intern(s) will be involved in the creation of STEAM content, delivery of content, and possibly the marketing/promotion as well. They will assist the senior librarian and STEAM Team as they move from prelaunch, launch, and postlaunch of the STEAM Adventures: Exploration on Wheels. This internship will be a hybrid of both in-person and virtual. The intern will also help with the planning and execution of the large-scale event developed in partnership with the Anaheim STEAM Co-Op. The event, Fall STEAM Faire, will gather partners from across So Cal and provide a hands-on resource fair for elementary-age students. This is an unpaid internship.

Job Responsibilities

• Assisting and possibly conducting STEAM Programs under the STEAM Adventure brand in a virtual and in person environment
• Developing STEAM content (based on candidate’s background and interests) for use on the STEAM Adventures: Exploring on Wheels program and the STEAM on the Go! circulating kits
• Creation of digital content for website, social media, and videos as related to general STEAM projects and the STEAM Adventures brand
• Planning and executing the large scale special event, Anaheim STEAM Faire

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be passionate about science OR art, elementary-aged children, and have a can-do attitude. They will be flexible and willing to take on new challenges. If they do not have all the skills, they will be willing to learn and be a self-starter. Because we work with
majority-minority population that speaks predominately Spanish, being bilingual in Spanish and English would be a plus but not a requirement.
