Williamsburg, Virginia, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation ( JYF ) is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join our team as Project Archivist. We are seeking someone to survey and assess the current holdings of Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s institutional archives, including materials held in departmental repositories throughout the Foundation. Additionally, the individual will assist in developing an archives policy that includes a plan for future collecting and retention, will propose a consistent cataloging system, and, will ensure best practices for housing and storage of  JYF  records. This is a part time position and does not include state benefits. This temporary employment is expected to last approximately six months depending on business needs. Principal job functions:

Conduct an assessment and records survey of materials held in a variety of archival and records repositories within  JYF ;
Propose an efficient and consistent cataloging system for all archives, records and special collections of  JYF , based on current national archival and descriptive standards and best practices;
Propose and ensure that all  JYF  departments that maintain archival materials, follow best practices for housing and storage of said materials;
Assist the Curatorial Department in creating a  JYF  archives policy to be used for collecting and accessing materials that will create an accurate history of Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.
Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of current national archival and descriptive standards and best practices, including working knowledge of  DACS ,  MARC  format and other archival description standards
Knowledge of best practices in handling and preservation of archival material
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Strong organization skills with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

ALA -accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Archival Studies, or equivalent education
At least 2 years professional archival experience, preferably in a museum or academic setting
