The UCSF Library is seeking enthusiastic, innovative, and growth-focused candidates to join the Archives & Special Collections (A&SC) team for a position of Oral History Archivist.

 Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate University Librarian, the Oral History Archivist will manage and coordinate all aspects of the oral history program. The oral history program aims to better understand and share the history of the health sciences education through recording, transcribing, and preserving oral histories with members of the UCSF teaching and research communities and by making these oral histories available to the public. This interview-based oral history project will capture the history from the architects of curriculum transformation at each of the four schools (Dental, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy).

The UCSF Archives has been partnering with the Office of Diversity and Outreach, the UCSF Black Caucus, and the REPAIR project on undertaking initiatives to interrogate and repair the legacy systems that perpetuate oppressive structures in health care, education, and research and to create new systems that advance racial and social equity and justice in our spaces, collections, programs, and services. Through the Oral History Program, the archives will support the university’s historical reconciliation activities as well as continue identifying and democratizing access to relevant archival collections and through engaging UCSF and wider community through programming, curriculum, and publications.

As a member of the UCSF Archives & Special Collections team, the Oral History Archivist will report to the Associate University Librarian and will work with the UCSF Archives team and the members of the inaugural Oral History Advisory Committee to identify and develop the list of interviewees and perform outreach activities related to the program. The Oral History Archivist will also be responsible for recording, editing, preserving, maintaining, and making these oral histories accessible.

***This is a 1 year contract role. Salary range is $76,700 – $100,000 annually based on education and commensurate experience.***
