The UCLA Digital Library Program seeks student employees for Fall 2021, with the possibility of extension into 2022. We are looking for students who can work between 12-19 hours. The starting hourly rate is $17.07. The Fall 2021 positions are fully remote. The Digital Library Program supports, coordinates, and publishes rare and unique materials online via the UCLA Digital Library, the International Digital Ephemera Project, the Sinai Palimpsests Project, and many other digital initiatives. We work with UCLA academic departments and faculty, Library Special Collections, and with several international partners.

Daily work might include reviewing and creating metadata, editing images and audio, organizing content and digital assets, documenting projects and processes, social media content creation, graphic design, and a wide variety of other activities. We are especially interested in applicants with a strong interest in the following aspects of digital libraries, including:

  • Content and Digital Asset Management Systems
  • Databases
  • Metadata
  • Scripting/APIs
  • Data cross-walking and transformation
  • UX and web design
  • Social media and content promotion

Job Qualifications


  • Registered UCLA student
  • Interest in digital libraries and/or digital scholarship
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to team goals

Optional Skills:

  • Knowledge of languages other than English (especially Spanish, Arabic, Syriac)
  • Experience working with digital audio/video files
  • Experience creating and/or cleaning metadata
  • Experience working with spreadsheets and/or OpenRefine
  • Knowledge of metadata schemas like Dublin Core, MODS, RDF
  • Experience using content management systems and versioning environments, ex. Drupal, GitHub, Omeka
  • Web design experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery)
  • Social media experience
  • Basic scripting skills (bash, Python, etc.)
