Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, Arboretum Library
The architecturally stunning Arboretum Library contains a comprehensive collection of resources on gardening, botany, California native plant life, environmental issues, and some agriculture as these subjects relate to the plants native to and planted in Southern California. This includes books, magazines, e-books, local digitized collections, government documents, pamphlets, and audio-visual materials. The Library also provides an exciting environment for programming and art exhibits related to the collections.
The successful candidate will provide professional librarian coverage in the Arboretum Library for 22 hours a week including Saturdays and Sundays as well as additional time during Tuesday-Friday and during the Arboretum Librarian’s time away from the Library.
Archives–The incumbent will set-up, process materials, create and enter finding aids into the online catalog for an official institutional archive for the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden as well as the Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation.
Digital Asset Management–The most important digital assets will be moved to the online catalog to make them accessible to the staff and public. This includes assessment for priorities and cataloging the items with simplified MARC cataloging in the EOS International integrated library system.
The job also includes public programming for current and new audiences interacting with the collections on weekends, marketing, managing the library websites and e-books as well as all aspects of public library service. Volunteer management provides support for the success of the projects.
Must have archive, digital asset management, public service, reference and library programming experience. Must have graduated from or be enrolled in an American Library Association accredited library school.
The wage DOE and working hours average 22 hours a week. The job begins as soon as possible. No benefits.
The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is an arboretum/botanic garden and historical site comprising 127 acres that is supported through the cooperative efforts of the public and private sectors.
