The Sherman Grinberg Film Library is home of the Paramount newsreels, “Eyes of the World” (1927 – 1927 silent newsreels) and “Eyes and Ears of the World” newsreels (1930 – 1957 the “talkies”). The Library also has the American Pathe’ newsreel collection, one of the oldest American newsreel collections starting in 1897 and extending to 1957. The library owns over 20 million feet of motion pictures.
Activity: The Sherman Grinberg Film Library offers the unique opportunity to learn about motion picture film preservation, restoration, assembling film reels for digitization, research and developing critical thinking skills.
Staff receive training in safety procedures as well as the handling of nitrate and safety (acetate & polyester) motion picture film, sorting, assembling and splicing methods. Staff will work with a team of researchers, preservationists, and motion picture film professionals on some or all of the following tasks:
- Restoring and Assembling film reels in preparation for digitization.
- Assisting in developing new programming in connection with private and public organizations.
- Establish working relations with known media and entertainment companies for distribution and access.
- Other duties as assigned.
Candidates with experience handling, restoring and splicing 35mm motion picture film are encouraged to apply.
