About the position:
As a part of Digital Library Systems and Services (DLSS), the Digital Projects and Data Manager is a member of a highly collaborative team engaged in the creation, management, preservation, and publishing of digital collections. The Digital Projects and Data Manager contributes to these efforts as both a project manager and a data manager. Project management responsibilities include developing work plans, tracking tasks and overall progress, generating documentation, and communicating project status to stakeholders. Data management responsibilities include analysis, creation, transformation, and quality assurance of descriptive data for library and archival collections to be mapped and indexed to online platforms for discovery and delivery of digital content to researchers. In collaboration with archivists, metadata specialists, and software engineers, the Digital Projects and Data Manager supports the development of generalizable approaches and streamlined workflows to facilitate the processing of archival data to collection discovery platforms efficiently and at scale. Technical skills, including scripting, are essential.
The Digital Projects and Data Manager is a member of a cross-organizational team engaged in the expansion of Virtual Tribunals (VT) at Stanford. Launched to the public in 2018, VT (https://exhibits.stanford.edu/virtual-tribunals) is a project to compile a comprehensive database of international criminal tribunal records, from the post-WWII cases through the contemporary tribunals, fully digitized, and rendered searchable through a single online portal. Working within the curatorial, technical, and operational framework established for the VT project, the Digital Projects and Data Manager supports work to incorporate additional content, including archival audiovisual and textual materials, to the database. They work with subject matter and language experts, digital collection specialists, digital library service managers, and archivists as needed; they also may serve as the product owner or business owner during software development cycles, working with engineering teams on enhancements and maintenance.

- Oversee, coordinate, and perform library and archival descriptive data acquisition, transformation, ingest, indexing and QA, with support from IT managers, archivists, and software engineers.
- Serve as a project manager or other supporting role on digital collection projects.
- Serve as a business owner, product owner or other supporting roles as needed in similar project initiatives to reflect and represent functional and technical needs of users.
- Understand business processes and translate into system specifications.
- Create business requirements, including business rules, quality attributes, performance goals, external interfaces and constraints.
- Collaborate with the business partners and test team to create and execute system test plans, user-acceptance testing and rollout.
- Conduct in-depth analysis to solve problems, identifying gaps and issues that minimize system modification and maintenance; make recommendations, including discovering new approaches or applications.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience with both process and data modeling.
- Demonstrated experience with fit/gap analysis.
- Understanding of relational database concepts.
- Strong understanding of the components of web applications.
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with minimum direction.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish effective, ongoing relationships with clients, staff and management.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work under pressure in high stress situations.
- Demonstrated ability to program or script.
Other Relevant Experience May Include:
- Processing and cataloging archival collections.
- Knowledge of current library and archival descriptive and metadata standards (e.g. DACS, EAD, MODS) and related software applications (e.g., ArchivesSpace, Archon).
- Acquaintance with Linked Data developments in metadata creation and use.
- Experience creating online exhibits of archival collections.
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone.
- Rarely writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
