At the heart of this new position is a chance to harness evidence from a growing body of retention and library research that suggests that academic libraries have a positive impact on student outcomes. This position will support student-centered learning, focusing on building library research skills and engaging students with the tools of scholarship. This position will work largely nights and weekends providing reference services to the campus community. The person in this position may also be assigned to work on project-related assignments such as LibGuides, copy cataloging, digital initiatives, developing outreach materials, teaching in the library instruction program, and other work.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program
  • Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program
  • Experience providing one-on-one and distance-mediated reference and research services to a diverse population
  • Evidence of flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work successfully in a complex, dynamic, and diverse environment with competing demands
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to service excellence to a diverse community
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced change-oriented environment with a student-centered outlook
  • Demonstrated forward-thinking approach to challenges and opportunities
  • Evidence of effective cross-cultural interpersonal and communication skills (i.e., multicultural competencies)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a diverse community and team environment
  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Photoshop, LibGuides, Alma, Canvas, familiarity with bibliographic record formats and metadata systems is helpful.
  • One (1)) or more years’ professional experience in an academic library setting
  • Evidence of cultivating relationships with faculty, students, staff, and community members to encourage information literacy instruction program growth
  • Experience working with library users of diverse ages, as well as from various socio-economic, cultural, and academic backgrounds
