Are you looking to join the staff of the Dodge City Public Library in Dodge City, KS? With a diverse staff of nearly 20 FTE, we are looking for our next Assistant Director and someone to join our awesome family! Dodge City Public Library is located in SW Kansas, just a day’s drive away from many larger cities in the surrounding states. We are home to the Boot Hill Museum, Depot Theatre Company, and the setting of Gunsmoke! We recently renovated the lower level of the library to create and engaging (and bright!) children’s area and a new home for the Kansas Heritage Center, which was completed just a few years ago. We are looking for someone with a passion for serving the community, who doesn’t mind jumping in an helping out patrons of all ages and backgrounds. We are a spirited bunch, and have a good time serving our community, and are looking to grow our presence outside the library with more community outreach in the coming years. We are looking for someone who has knowledge and experience working in customer service and libraries, but can be a leader within our team and has some supervisory experience under their belt. We promise, no day will ever be dull, and you might find yourself testing out our makerspace items, rearranging areas, or having a good laugh over a funny moment among staff.

TITLE: Assistant Director of Public Services

Reports to: Executive Director

FLSA: Exempt

Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation: $45,000-$52,000 Annual depending on education & experience

Benefits: Vacation, Sick Leave, Health Insurance, KPERS Retirement, Holiday Pay.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director of Public Services performs a variety of library tasks including collection development of determined areas of the collection, supervision of library staff and certain departments, providing customer service, and serving as primary administrator in the absence of the Executive Director.

​EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution preferred.  Bachelor’s degree in education, literature, management, business, human resources or other relevant degree required.  3 years progressively responsible experience working in a library, with at least one year in a supervisory position.  Must have a valid driver’s license. Residence upon date of hire preferred in Ford County, Kansas.
