ORCID US Community: Membership Benefits for Non-profit Organizations
ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor Identifier) is a non-profit organization supported by a global community of organizational members, including research organizations, publishers, funders, professional associations, and other stakeholders in the research ecosystem. ORCID provides a free persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) for researchers that also serves as a record of their affiliations, activities, funding, and works. ORCID member organizations can integrate ORCID into digital platforms and workflows to reduce administrative burden and connect researchers’ ORCID iD records with local systems such as institutional repositories, publishing platforms, HR systems, grant applications, and more.
Any non-profit organization in the US can become a premium ORCID member at a significantly discounted rate ($4,800/year) by joining the ORCID US Community consortium, led by LYRASIS in partnership with the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA), Northeast Research Libraries (NERL), the Big Ten Academic Alliance, and the Health Research Alliance. The ORCID US Community provides dedicated support for ORCID adoption, plus communication channels, activities, and resources to support a growing community of practice around ORCID in the US.
This webinar will cover the basics of ORCID and the benefits of becoming an ORCID member organization, including how ORCID can be used to uniquely identify researchers, streamline reporting workflows for assessment and gauging impact, confirm organizational relationships to researchers, and save time and reduce administrative burden both institutionally and for your researchers.
At the end of the session, participants should be able to:
- Understand the benefits of ORCID for organizations
- Identify ways that ORCID could be used to streamline processes in local systems and workflows
- Conceptualize a plan for local adoption of ORCID, with knowledge of where to go to find more information
